The Greek Idol song sounds like a Gavrilidis leftover that probably Kiamos or whoever didn't want. It's okish, though, and would have sounded better with Maria or Giorgos than Panagiotis and Malou. Speaking of Malou, she was fun, she has charisma and stage presence and I like her musical style, but she still got WAY too many compliments. She's a very limited singer, and she was often offkey. She should have a career though, but why the hype is not clear to me. I shared Greek Idol videos in a big Israeli music forum and everyone hated her and thought she was weak.

Rallia is my favorite one too. I agree on most of your list although I will say that Mpalafas had some good performances on the show (I liked The Passenger a lot) and was actually much better than anyone on GI this season, also at least he came out of the show and actually worked on his original material and didn't go all commercial. The likes of Petrelis and Karafotis are good vocalists but not very interesting singers/musicians (they do have audience, apparently). I do think that from their genre Oikonomopoulos is the best because he's both a good singer and oozing star quality.

Interestingly enough, especially in recent years, the production / judges rarely promote good singers on the show anyway, even if they have some, because they are looking for instant profit and some kids who can do some quick pop hits and disappear after the summer. I tend to like the ones who have some long term thought and idea of who they are and what they want to do. People like Dimos Anastasiadis (although he is xatzigiannising himself) and from more recently, Nikiforos, are good examples for me because they were very true to themselves on the show and they are singing their own music after the show and not some manufactured cheap pop tunes.

Don't forget Nikolas Metaksas, he should have one X factor not Louca.

Actually, I disagree on that one. He was a great performer and singer, sure, but A. don't look down at Loukas who is a great singer and I think he proved it this year in Eurovision doing much much better than anyone expected him to, and B. Nikolas was very obviously not interested in a career in Greece. He was on his way to Boston even before the show, and even though he finished second, and obviously had a lot of doors open to him in Greece, opted to go abroad, study and record here in the US. I respect him for that decision - it took a lot of courage, and he could have gone the Eleftheria Eleftheriou way and sign a record deal because it was a good chance, even if it means recording materials she doesn't want to do. However, this is the Greek X Factor, I don't think that someone who is not interested in a career In Greece should be on it, not to mention win it.

I didn't disagree about him being a great musician - I enjoyed his style a lot in the show, but I do think he suffers from a huge lack of charisma which was always a problem for me and I think is a problem for him. And his 3 singles flopped, not 2. Only one of them is good though.

As far as Ivi goes - it's kinda sad, especially as none of her big hits are actually her hits: San Erthei H mera and krata ta matia sou kleista would have done just as well without her (but kudos for Sony Music for playing their cards right). While her mini-album did sell (again, Sony Music playing their cards right and knowing what type of audience will buy that kind of album) none of her solo singles did too well. And she can't sing to save her life - just saw a few videos from Amita Motion from last week and she sounds horrible.

However - I am offended for Nikiforos, who is much more successful than any of the XF winners, and while he might not be as big a celebrity as Ivi, he's popular enough, and is actually not about being a celebrity like her, but about being a singer and even a writer. I mean, Yposxesou was a huge hit and he wrote that, as well as other tracks in his album (oh, he has a full album - how many XF participants can say that? 4?), and three singles, two of which did super well, and the third one not as well as the first two but still well enough, getting airplay and charting in various charts. I get that many people don't like him or his music, not being as "special" as Stavros, but going more for the popular combinations of pop/rock/laika, but his album is actually really good, and he sings very very well, and he did very well despite nobody thinking he would, which I am impressed with.

And on the topic of new releases - is it possible to skip the summer already? I gave up hope on any proper music being released in the summer.

Well, that's a matter of taste, obviously, which is subjective. But success can be measured more objectively.

No idea about overall airplay though as the mediainspector charts died at some point in May. But I've heard it on the radio quite a few times. Still, even that did better than any of Ivi's solo singles or Stavros's singles. Or any of the other XF people for that matter, perhaps Kokkina Xalia did well with their latest single? Haven't noticed it much but it might have.

He wrote the first album alone and with some friends, which was a big risk on Heaven's end, but I guess they think it worked because I've seen recent interviews where he already works on materials for the next album, and with the same people. Still waiting for any of the XF/GI winners to get AN album out. I thought it was really sad when Valandw performed in the GI final a year after she won, and apart of her winner single from a year ago, she had to sing something by Adele as she still has no material of her own.

PS on the subject of the thread: the new Ploutarxos single is pretty crappy. Very generic and doesn't stand out at all.

Speaking of Greek Idol and X Factor, here is the first single of Xrysa Mpandeli. She was top 15 on Greek Idol 2 (and also made it pretty far on the XF3 auditions). She was signed by Lyra and working on a first album.
